Photographer: Daniel St.PierreShoutem user’s community gathered on our team page probably noticed that a guy who stood there practically 24/7 is missing for few days. Well, a good news – Ilija Brajkovic is not sick and his Internet connection is fine.  However, Ilija decided to take new challenges which led him away from Shoutem support and community management.  I am personally glad I met Ilija and had a chance to drink few beers with him. His contribution to Shoutem will not be counted only by numerous blog posts and team shout replies but also by his relentless spirit and concentration on solving issues.

The new person on the board is me – Davor Banovic, ban. I am involved with Five Minutes and Shoutem  for more than two years and, in last few months I am taking charge of Shoutem Quality Assistance. In last  few days, as some of you probably noticed, I am responsible for Shoutem product support. I hope I will manage to build on the ground Ilija and the rest of the team created. In the end, with the rest of the Shoutem guys, I will continue to work for the benefit of Shoutem and its users. Thank you.

Our Android developers worked hard in the last couple of days to develop new features for our branded Android applications. These features are bringing us closer to the final version of these apps, and also to our general Android application. Here is the list of all new things:

  • Users can now see other users profiles.
  • It’s possible to follow / unfollow other users.
  • Show only friends timeline.
  • When posting a shout, users can attach photos.
  • Activity screen doesn’t show comments. Comments are visible on
  • It is possible to save application to SD card.
  • Some bug fixes.

We have one more known bug to solve: forward to Twitter doesn’t work yet.

If you use some of these applications, and you find some bugs, please report them at our support network.

I’m very happy to present you two new members of our team:

pedja_puseljaFirst one is Pedja Puselja. Pedja is technology evangelist from Strasbourg, France. After several years working in a web development team, he started his new career: marketing and a new media consultant. He specializes in blogs and social networks, and shares his knowledge on many conferences. He is one of the founders of Blogopen, a conference for bloggers. With his colleague, he also started a series of corporate seminars Tweetokracija, where he presents the advantage of social media to many marketing experts.

Last year, he started his own jeans brand wtfJeans. He was in charge of marketing strategy (based only on social media) and business development. After 24 hours, wftJeans became a trending topic on Twitter, with coverage on many blogs and sites like Mashable, Engadget, Gizmodo, Crunchgear…

He will join ShoutEm as Head of Marketing and User Experience.

josip_maricevicSecond one is Josip Maricevic. Josip is a recent graduate at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, but he holds a significant programming knowledge and skills. He is interested in iPhone development, especially 3D games. Prior joining ShoutEm, he developed a couple of iPhone applications. In his free time he likes to ski and watch hockey.

He will work at ShoutEm as iPhone developer.

Let’s hope new colleagues will bring more excitement and positive energy to the ShoutEm team, and that we’ll use that energy to build better platform for local communities.

Here are some of the new features and bug fixes in a new version:

  • MessageCount and NewMessageCount are now calculated dynamically. This should remove bug with „ghost“ messages in message inbox.
  • All traces to SMS login are now removed
  • Two additional promo pages added to NetworkProfile.
  • AvatarProviderType set to Unknown if MemberAvatarSet is executed. This should remove bug with iPhone avatar uploaded, but not displayed
  • Places and events are now likable. Member can announce that he/she likes a place or event same way as he/she was able to do that for shouts
  • Foursquare venues lazy fetch re-enabled.
  • Likes shouts, Badge shouts and New Chief shouts are now forwarded to Facebook and Twitter
  • Some internal code changes
  • Some bug fixes…

It’s a big day for us. Today we submitted our first branded Android apps to the Android Market. With Android, we decided to take a different approach. We decided to build a couple of branded apps first, and after we test them, we will build a general ShoutEm application.

There will be 4 branded apps available to download: Grind, WeHarlem, Artylizer and Punkt. These apps are in early beta with a minimal set of features. For now, these features will be available to users:

  • Login with ShoutEm ID
  • Login/Sign Up with Facebook connect
  • Login/Sign Up with Twitter connect
  • Public shouts feed
  • Posting a new shout
  • Check-in
  • Deleting a shout
  • Status forwarding to Facebook
  • Status forwarding to Twitter
  • Nearby places list
  • Place – details
  • Place – shouts
  • Place – visitors
  • Upcoming events
  • Event details

There are also a couple of other features left to be developed in a future:

  • Finding friends on Facebook
  • Finding friends on Twitter
  • User’s profile view
  • Friends view
  • Followers view
  • etc.

As we mentioned, this is only early beta of our Android apps, so if you see any bugs please report them at

We proudly announce that we secured $1.2M of investment from RSG Capital. We will use this investment to continue building mobile applications as well as web interface.

At this moment, ShoutEm hosts more than 20.000 networks across the globe. Our biggest network is Twieber, which has more than 13.000 members.

We launched a new version 5 months ago, and we are looking forward to develop some new features (events, for example) and mobile applications for other platforms (Android is coming very soon, BlackBerry and Java applications should be upgraded, maybe we develop a version of Windows Phone 7). Also, we are eagerly waiting for a ShoutEm version 1.0, which means beta no more.
